Professor Krzysztof Kozłowski from the AMU Institute of Film, Media and Audiovisual Arts of the Faculty of Polish and Classical Studies has received the prestigious award of the University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt” (BHC). The AMU scholar will carry out a project entitled “Media Use and Propaganda: The Bayreuth Wagner Festival 1933-1944”.
The awarded projects are carried out at the Universität Bayreuth (UBT) in cooperation with the hosting unit. During his research stay (“Senior Fellowship”), Professor Krzysztof Kozlowski, will work with Professor Anno Mungen, Director of the Forschungsinstitut für Musiktheater (fimt) UBT, on the research topic “Media Use and Propaganda: The Bayreuth Wagner Festival 1933-1944”. The award-winning project will examine the hierarchy and role of the media around the Bayreuther Festspiele (a music festival in the Bavarian city of Bayreuth devoted exclusively to the works of Richard Wagner) and its significance for National Socialist propaganda.
When asked what the award means to him, Professor Kozłowski answers: – First of all, it is a great honor. Even more so because the Bayreuth Humboldt Center Research Prize competition is open to universities and institutions from all over the world and covers all scientific disciplines. Secondly, personal satisfaction, because it is a confirmation of the research direction undertaken years ago and it is the recognition of the work done with the Forschungsinstitut für Musiktheater (FIMT) at UBT supported with great kindness by the authorities of the AMU Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology. Thirdly, it opens up completely new perspectives. The BHC research prize is awarded in a competition for innovative research conducted at a German university. And fourthly, an impulse to take up new challenges. The results of the awarded project, in which I will cooperate with Professor Anno Mungen, will serve us in the ERC grant application we are currently preparing,” says the scientist.
The research award founded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and Universität Bayreuth is intended to support UBT’s cooperation with the best universities in the world, promote outstanding scientific achievements and internationalize research. It is awarded by the BHC External Advisory Board in a competitive process on the basis of innovative projects from all disciplines.
