Professor Bogumiła Kaniewska elected first Rectrix of AMU

It gives us great pleasure to inform our students, staff and partners worldwide that the AMU Gathering of Electors decided on Monday, June 29th to vote overwhelmingly (132:76) in favor of the candidacy of professor Bogumiła Kaniewska for the post of Adam Mickiwicz University Rector, first woman ever to to be elected for the highest managerial job at AMU, taking over from September 1st, 2020 until August 31st, 2024.

Professor Kaniewska was born in Poznan, graduated from the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology, received her PhD in 1995, defended her habilitation thesis in 2001 and received her tenure as professor of the humanities in 2015.

She served as the Dean of the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology from 2012 for the full 4-year term.

From September 2016 until now, she has served as Vice-Rector for Student Affairs

Professor Kaniewska’s main research interests revolve around history of literature, modern literature  and English translation studies.  For example, she translated “Alice’s adventures in Wonderland” and “Alice Through the Looking-Glass”, both by Lewis Caroll, into Polish.  She enjoys trekking, eating pancakes and collecting various mascots from around the world.  Both of her two children, Agata (Law graduate) and Piotr (Chemistry student) are her pride and joy.
