The Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan has launched a website in Chinese! It contains information as well as videos, including the opinions of students from the Middle Kingdom. This is another step in the broad cooperation of the Faculty with mainland China.
According to the Dean, Prof. Tomasz Mizerkiewicz, more and more Chinese students are studying at WFPiK. – Many Polish philology schools in China have signed an agreement with the Faculty, e.g. Polish philology schools in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi’an and they send several students for annual stays. There are also scholars on internships,” says professor Mizerkiewicz. He adds that English-language studies are very popular: Bachelor degree in Central European and Balkan Studies and Master degree program in Mediterranean Studies.
– Apart from Polish studies as a foreign language at a Bachelor level, from October 2021 we decided to start Polish studies as a foreign language at a Master level. The first double degree agreements which enable students to take up studies in Polish philology (mainly in the field of Polish philology as a foreign language) have been signed. Thanks to the recognition of a part of the Polish language courses completed in China, they may apply for a BA degree at Adam Mickiewicz University, having passed the curriculum differences and having completed an appropriate part of their studies in Poznań, adds the Dean.
The Faculty also conducts scientific research in cooperation with Chinese universities – in 2018 in Poznan and in 2019 in Shanghai two conferences were held in cooperation with the Shanghai University of International Studies.
– Even at the time of the pandemic, a group of students from Guangzhou and Chengdu arrived, and have been in Poznań since October, studying remotely, adds Professor Mizerkiewicz. – On February 11th the Faculty organized celebrations of the Chinese New Year for them. It was a nice surprise, they received small gifts and, most importantly, we connected them remotely with their home country and they could talk to their families, Polish professors and Polish language teachers in China, in the settings of Adam Mickiewicz Hall, recollects the Dean.
The Faculty website in Chinese is available, similarly to the English version, by clicking on flag at the top of the Polish language website. The portal can also be accessed directly, using the following address: https://wfpik-zh.home.amu.edu.pl/.
The project was made possible thanks to the International Relations Office of Adam Mickiewicz University, NAWA funding and the involvement of Faculty staff, former doctoral students, the team working at the Experimental Media Laboratory and Chinese students of Polish Studies in Poznań.
This is not the end of plans related Polish Studies and China: – We want to launch WeChat pages (the equivalent of Facebook) in order to have a departmental social media in Chinese – announces professor Mizerkiewicz.
